Potential patients will be screened by phone and apprised of clinic guidelines. Diagnostic criteria in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition will be followed.

The guidelines include:

  1. Staff is unavailable for acute emergencies and the clinic cannot respond to crisis situations. If these occur 911 should be called or an immediate emergency room visit.
  2. All patients assume responsibility for making and keeping appointments. Appointments will be made through Mental Health America of Kentucky. Being actively motivated and engaged in the therapeutic process is an expectation, and if they are taking medication need to make sure they have enough until the next appointment.
  3. All patients make a commitment to work hard on achieving goals, understanding that treatment is goal-directed and time-limited.
  4. The decision-making process for treatment is through the patient therapist interaction, with a team approach often utilized.
  5. Medications will only be prescribed as needed and if the patient is in active psychotherapy. This is not a medication clinic.

Patients can not be seen who:

  1. Are not highly motivated to be engaged in the therapeutic process
  2. Have any insurance coverage. If this is obtained during treatment a transitional discharge will occur
  3. Have an ongoing relationship with another mental health clinician.
